Modern laminate is a floating floor: the boards lock to each other and are never glued or nailed to the subfloor.

Before You Start: Preparation

2. Check the subfloor is level, dry and firmly bonded, with no loose or rocking tiles.
3. Level deep grout joints with a compound before laying.
4. Acclimatise the boards in the room for around 48 hours so they adjust to the temperature and humidity.
5. Clear the rooms and arrange building access before the crew arrives.

Laminate Flooring Installation Step by Step

1. Plan the Direction

Lay planks along the main light source and the longest wall. This hides joints and stretches the room visually.

2. Lay the Underlay

Roll out the underlay across the whole area, butting edges without overlapping. It cushions the floor, reduces noise and evens out minor imperfections.

3. Start the First Row

Begin at the longest straight wall with the tongue side facing it, leaving an expansion gap of roughly 8 to 10 mm around the entire perimeter.

4. Click the Boards Together

Angle each board into the previous one and press down until it locks. Because click system floors need no adhesive, the floor is usable immediately.

5. Stagger the Joints

Offset end joints between rows by at least 300 mm. Staggering spreads the load and stops a visible repeating pattern across the floor.

6. Fit Skirting and Profiles

Cover the expansion gaps with skirting, and use transition profiles at doorways and where the floor meets another material. Never pin skirting through the boards.

How Long It Takes and What It Costs

Click systems are typically laid at 30 to 50 square metres per day, so most apartments are finished within two days. 

Fully installed with skirting, laminate runs from 115 to 226 AED per square metre, depending on the range and usage class. Removal of an old floor and subfloor levelling sit outside that figure and should be itemised separately.
