Unit 5.17    Facilitating Change in Health and Social Care

Level 5       15 Credits

Sample Assignment

You are employed in a health and social care organisation.  The Senior Management Group (SMG) wishes to carry out a review of current practice and provision.   You have been asked to carry out an exercise that will identify areas where significant change will be experienced in the near future and propose strategies to enable the organisation’s smooth transition through these changes.   The SMG has asked that you cover the following areas;

• an understanding of the factors that drive change in health and social care services

• an evaluation of recent changes in health and social services

• an understanding of the principles of change management

Task 1

Prepare an outline brief that identifies and explains the key factors that are likely to drive a need for change in health and social care services (1.1)

You intend to make a power point presentation with a hand-out for the SMG of the identified factors that drive change in the area.  This presentation and accompanying hand-out must assess the challenges that these factors of change bring to health and social care services. (1.2)

Task 2

After identifying key factors and challenges, you have been asked to produce a report for the next SMG meeting.  The report must:

• devise a strategy and criteria for measuring recent changes in health and social care (2.1)

• measure the impact of recent changes in health and social care services against the identified criteria (2.2)

• evaluate the overall impact of recent changes in health and social care (2.3)

• propose appropriate service responses to recent changes in health and social care services (2.4).

Task 3

The SMG has also asked you to bring to the meeting a booklet entitled ‘A Guide to the Principles of Change Management’.  This booklet must.

• explain the key principles of change management (3.1)

• explain how changes in health and social care are planned (3.2).

• assess how to monitor recent changes in health and social care services(3.3).
